Let’s talk about size. Sometimes size does matter. There are times when bigger is better.
Large art pieces are attention-getting, and statement making. They grab your attention and set the mood.
Imagine a six foot long framed print or gallery wrap like the one above over the headboard, or even in place of a headboard. Add some floor-to-ceiling drapes and a beautiful chandelier and this is one very sexy room.
Most people haven’t considered the idea of being able to commission a photographer to create such pieces. That’s probably because most consumer photo labs don’t create prints or wraps bigger than 30” x40”.
But let’s just say that you wanted to print a 4 foot selfie, or an old photo that you scanned at home. Most camera phones don’t have enough pixels on the sensor to print that large; the image would look “blocky” or pixelated when printed.
Even photos done with a digital SLR will have some cropping that is likely to occur when printed, and many labs will not resize the image for you to avoid cropping. A professional photographer will know how to prepare the file for printing.
Then there’s the issue of scanning. I always give the corresponding digital file when a client purchases a piece of wall art, mounted print, or a collection of images, but sometimes if the image has a texture, it won’t scan well. You might also see “tram lines”, light banding, or out-of-focus areas. For a complete list of issues that can be seen when scanning an image, check out THIS blog post.
I offer you the ability to not only create a unique, original art piece for your home but can get it printed as large as you want. Plus, how cool is it to be able to brag that you were able to commission an photographer to create a sexy piece of art?
