5 Reasons Brides Do a Boudoir Session

Boudoir portraits before the wedding have become very popular in recent years. If you’re engaged, or just married, here are five reasons you should consider a boudoir session with me.

1. Women think that boudoir is about getting undressed when in reality it's about getting dressed.   Lingerie is the base of any outfit, and your wedding dress may not afford you the ability to be very expressive.  A bridal boudoir session allows you to give your significant other a sneak peek into the honeymoon!

2. Get away from the stress of planning the wedding.  (Bridesmaid drama anyone?)  Get some uninterrupted ME time. You deserve to pamper yourself.

3. Which leads me to my next point:  you now have an excellent excuse to get your hair and your nails done and go shopping. 

You’ve probably been on a weight loss regimen and are feeling your most beautiful. Even if you’ve reached your goal weight or you’re at peace with your body, we’re only getting older.  Now is the time to step out of your comfort zone!  Besides, outside your comfort zone is where the most fun happens!

4. There’s the album that everyone gets to see and then there’s the one for his/her eyes only.  It’s a secret souvenir from your time as a fiancée.   Most brides will order the deluxe album and gift the groom a little black book.

5. And if you really want to see the look of surprise and delight on his face? Wait until he sees the phone app you put on his phone the morning of the wedding! Or…save it for the honeymoon! 

So, far in advance should you schedule your session?

The answer kind of depends upon whether you are planning on paying in full or doing a payment plan. Products take 4-6 weeks to come in so if you’re doing a payment plan, you’ll want to have your order paid in full at least 4-6 weeks prior to your wedding or honeymoon.

Eradicating Mom Guilt: Do Something for You.

Mommy-guilt:  “There is ALWAYS something that needs to be done.” and “I should be spending time with my children.”

Society: “Women are superwomen. We can do it all.”  False.  At least partially.  We may be able to do it all but that doesn’t mean we should.

When I don't take time for myself, I hurt physically and emotionally. I feel burned out. I feel zapped of all my joy and enthusiasm, and like I'm just slogging through my days. I start to feel resentful of my family, my work, my responsibilities, and everything else in my life. And I know that doing even the simplest of things to take care of myself can change all of that.

It might not be ideal, but sometimes the only way you can talk yourself into doing something good for you is to remind yourself of what happens when you don't. If you're struggling with carving out space for yourself, take a step back and consider how you really feel about that. Are you okay with being last? How is constantly being in last place affecting the way you feel about everything else? Chances are once you realize how low you're ranking on your own priority list, you'll end up deciding that a half-hour to yourself is downright necessary.

It’s not only ok to put yourself first but it actually makes you a better mom.

Can't You Just Photoshop It Out?

You Probably Don't Need as much airbrushing as you think you do.

When you come in for your session, we'll go over what is typically removed in Photoshop, but essentially my policy is a very natural looking edit.

Standard Retouching includes removal of blemishes, wrinkles, cellulite, bruises, spider and varicose veins, skin rolls, scars and stretch marks (if requested).  

I'll flatten a tummy or smooth a bra line if need be, but I won't change your shape so much that it no longer resembles you.

So, what's outside the norm?

Removing tattoos (depending on size and location), removing tan lines completely, swapping out backgrounds, or changing the colors of outfits.  Edits like this are time-consuming and may be subject to additional costs.

Rest assured though, your photos will be 🔥🔥🔥 smoking hot!

I am always challenging myself to come up with new themes and this time it was all about the decadence of bathing in diamonds. Diamonds AND glitter would have been the ultimate show but we all know that glitter never goes away and I simply couldn’t fathom the cleanup of glitter.

Wax Elegant

I usually try to try to create at least one personal project a year for submission to art exhibits and galleries. This time, I wanted to create something with a 3-D effect.

I had flirted with the idea of encaustic wax for a while. Encaustic wax is not your everyday candle wax. In art, it’s mixed with tree sap to make it harder and more durable. It makes logical sense. After all, no one wants to hang a wax-coated portrait in a room with constant sunlight and have it be a sticky mess. Using encaustic wax prevents this.

Once I came up with my concept, I had to determine how I was going to make this work. Massage oil candles actually don’t harden fast enough, and regular candle wax is far too hot for human skin. Enter bondage candles: hotter than massage candles and cooler than regular candles.

Once I created the photographs, I had to come up with a way to make the wax jump out and look like real wax. I won’t give away all my secrets here but it’s not all encaustic wax here.

Originally, I used a professional model for this project but I’ve had such a positive response from fans and clients and have been asked to add this to my product offering. Initially, I was hesitant to do so, because of the risk of skin burns. I have decided to include these for clients with a signed damage liability waiver.
