What's My Beauty Secret?

I'm doing a video series with Kyymara Rose from Esthetics813 where we'll be discussing beauty tips and different treatments to keep you looking beautiful both in-front-of and behind the camera.  This is the first post where we discuss my least favorite thing to edit in photos and one of my most important beauty tips!

Transcript if you don’t feel like listening to the video or you’re not able to listen with sound:

Betty:  “Hi, I’m Betty with Boudoir Betty and I’m here with Kyymara Rose from Esthetics813.  Today we're here to discuss one of my pet peeves when editing photos.  One of my pet peeves is extreme sun damage. I'm not talking about the occasional freckle or tan line. I'm talking about discoloration of the skin, and hyperpigmentation. If you don't know what those are, I’m going to post some photos for you.  (Photo below).

While I was editing some of these photos, it occurred to me that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and I thought who better to talk to people and educate people about it than my friend Kyymara Esthetics813? So Kyymara’s going to talk to you for a couple of minutes about how to prevent sun damage and keep your skin looking really good and youthful.”

Kyymara: "Before I tell you how to prevent sun-damaged skin, let me let me tell you the reasons you would want to do it:

First of all, everybody spends millions of dollars in the United States to buy anti-aging cream. The leading factor for premature aging is UV penetration on your skin. It hyperinitiates your cells, which then causes premature aging. That's number one: a lot of sun, especially now in the summer, it's going to cause you dryness, flaking, wrinkles, fine lines, all things that Miss Betty then has to airbrush out because you don't want to see them in your photo. Lastly, we have four different types of cancers that come out, the worst being melanoma because it is deadly. all type of skin cancer is preventable, and if it’s caught early, it’s also curable so we do want to make sure that we are covering ourselves 24/7.  That doesn’t mean you’re going to wear sunblock in the evening but these are my reasons why: number one, when you use in the daytime…

I have a trick for you.

Take your sunblock and put it next to your toothpaste because then when you brush your teeth in the morning, you will brush.  You do that every morning and you’ll take your sunblock and you’ll put it on.  That will you the proper 15 minimum requirement to allow the product to penetrate before you go outside. Especially my ladies, you do your sunblock in order to get away from the zinc look, take a mineral makeup and put it over it. The reason I'm saying mineral makeup as opposed to a different make-up is because mineral makeup is refractive, so we're going to be refracting the UV rays, not absorbing them. There will be a couple that will penetrate but those will be then you know handled by your UV Productions. So, first tip of the day put your UV protection broad-spectrum professional-grade next to your toothpaste. Put it on in the morning, have your coffee, do whatever you have to do.  Do your make-up. At least dust your face with a mineral make-up…

I am with a photographer here. Do not use mineral makeup if you're going to take photos. She does not like it.”

Betty:  “The flash does not like it but for everyday wear, you definitely want to be putting on a mineral make-up*, or at least a powder that has the mica in it.”

Kyymara:  “We all love our life, doing what we do, our children, our families.  Just to let you know the importance, not just because of Photoshop, but there is 97,000 deaths that are going to be estimated to melanoma this year, so I mean that's a lot of people. 1 in 10 people get some type of cancer, so please everyone, use your sunblock everyday. If it's cloudy, use your sunblock. If it's sunny, use your sunblock. If you don't think you're going outside, wear your sunblock. Because you will get your mail and nosy Betty will come up to you, not this Betty, the nosey one, and she will talk to you more than 15 minutes and now it’s done. So, always wear your sunblock. If it's daytime, wear it.

At night, this is what I was talking about when I said 24 hours, if you use your mineral makeup again there are times that we're in front of the television, the computer, in windows, all that sends out UV rays which again, are aging and cause some form of cancer, so protect your skin. Love the skin you're in, and put on your sunblock.”

Betty:  “Great! Thank you so much!”

If you already have noticeable sunspots and hyperpigmentation, no worries!  I usually have my make-up artist cover it with make-up, but for a more permanent solution, stay tuned for our next video on how to banish sunspots and hyperpigmentation permanently!

* You can wear sunblock underneath your favorite shade of Limelight by Alcone foundation , or if you don't like to wear foundation,  I also recommend Limelight by Alcone’s Perfect Blush in #6 Glowing, which acts like a highlighter, and our Perfect Bronzer both of which contain mica, titanium dioxide, and iron oxide.
