Is It Ever Ok to Hang my Boudoir Photos Outside the Bedroom?

I was reading this blog post on Offbeat Home & Bride and seeing this question made me chuckle but also made me happy, because I truly feel that portraits should be displayed proudly, instead of collecting dust in a drawer, or sitting on a hard drive somewhere.

While most people wouldn't display an intimate boudoir portrait over their sofa, there are as many ways to display portraits as there are photo products.

The most common way to display boudoir photos is a hard cover photo book or flush mount album, or mounted print on the wall.

For those of you out there who are looking for something with a bit more flair, consider these options:
A gallery wrap, aka canvas, is perfect wall art for the bedroom. You can go with one large piece, or group them into several smaller pieces.

Photos can also be printed on metal, or wood to complement a home's decor, and photos can be printed on just about anything, say a wooden box for storage, keychains, magnets, even cufflinks.

Like the OP suggests, you aren't limited to the bedroom when it comes to displaying boudoir photos. I'm not suggesting a photo of you in your underthings over the mantle, but consider an abstract portrait that is cropped to show just the back, or a side profile.

These could be grouped together like a series, or hung solitary in a hallway or an entrance.

As a portrait photographer, I'm happy to offer my expertise in helping our choose what to display, and how to display it. In fact, I often encourage clients, before their shoot, to consider how they want to display their photos. This helps me plan the shot. For example, if a client tells me she wants a large gallery wrap to hang over the bed, I know to shoot to leave enough room for cropping the image when it's time for the client to select which image will be used for the wrap.

Part of the planning process involves discussing how you might like to best display your photos.  We can discuss what pieces would best complement your home and even where to display them.

Let your confidence hang like artwork on the wall!
